Hawgsmoke 2010

The A-10 'warthog' is my favorite aircraft.
Always liked the "looks"of that magnificent airplane.
3 examples of how she looks...

the "warthog' is actually this animal,

Phacochoerus africanus ("African Lens-Pig")
a beauty.. isn't she?

Ever since the first Hawgsmoke was held at  Michigan ANG's 172nd Fighter Squardron from Battle Creek.
I wanted to go to look upclose at an Hawgsmoke Competition.

Last time it was held in Salinas, Kansas and organised by 303th FS, the 190th FS won the competition.
The 2010 installment will be held at Boise, Idaho, October 13-16, hosted by the 190th Fighter Squadron.

And finally this year I am planning to go!
So around this date I will be there, and also will visit some other USAF bases..

here is the patch of this years Hawgsmoke.

Volkel Airbase

Today 5 feb 2010, I went to Volkel Airbase the Netherlands,
for a quick stop, with a good buddy of mine (J-A)

Unfortunately that weather was cold, dark, and wet....

It was known that there were some rare visitors comming from the UK.
From Leuchars Scotland to be exactly (EGQL)

The visitors were Tornado's F-3 from 111 SQN, and probably the last time that they were in the
Netherlands, because the Tornado F-3 is going to be phased out very shortly..(2010/2011)

some pics,

there were (of course) also some local F-16 flying,

just love the tiger tail!

                                          Nice afterburner,
